School Cross Country for Years 3- 6

This Monday 26th April we hold our School Cross country. Students in Year 3 to 6, will be competing to join in the fun of contributing to their House winning the Annual Cross Country “Perrett” Shield.  Races are held in Age groups ( 12/13, 11, and 9/10) for each gender.

The weather looks like being mild with possible showers. We will still go ahead if there are showers about.

Uniform

Students will wear their sports uniform with their Coloured housetop and shorts/skirts etc. They are permitted to wear ‘skins’, which will need to be worn underneath their shorts. No running spikes are to be worn. No jumpers should be worn whilst running but should be put on if cold afterward.

For afterward...

In case it does rain, it will be worthwhile for your child to bring a towel and a change of sports uniform or school uniform plus jocks and socks to change into. At least a spare pair of footwear and dry socks would be a good idea.

Student Participation

All students are expected to run. Those with a medical condition such as asthma are encouraged to run. They are asked to carry their puffer on them during the event and to be taken at least 20 minutes before the event, or as their asthma plan states. These students are asked to attend the office to take their medication and then take their medical box out to the oval where they will be stored for access if required.

Students who are declared unfit to run, are asked to provide a notice signed by their parents. A medical certificate is preferred. Such students are still expected to attend the event. These students will remain at the finishing line to assist.

SWD Students

Parents of students who are (SWD) Students With a Disability are encouraged to contact me for advice on their children competing in the SWD class at the District level and beyond.  There is a wide range of disabilities that are catered for. Please encourage your child to compete in this event. Physical and Intellectual disabilities are catered for.

Winning House

All students can contribute to their house score. Each runner's placing is accumulated and divided by the number of runners in the team. Runners that do not run at all receive the last placing total in their age level. For example, if there are 100 runners in the race, those that do not run receive 100 points- so even if your child can run a little bit they should be encouraged to do so. First place getters receive One point!

The winning team is the team with the lowest ‘average’ placing overall.

ANNUAL TROPHY

Students competing in the 3km races the 11yo and 12/13yo age groups are competing for the fastest time to win the Cross Country Champion award. Place getters in each race will receive a medallion.

The course

The course for all races will begin on the school oval, around the front of the hall, and continue on the bike track in a southerly direction. There will be a crossover onto the Kearney Drv side of the bike track where the runners will continue back to school. The 9/10 races will cross at the footbridge near our school then onto the back gate on the oval.  The 11yo and 12/13 yo races will continue onto the footpath of Boundary Rd up to the small lake then back along the paths and bike paths onto our school's back gate where there will be a short sprint to the finish line.

All students that complete the course will receive a raffle ticket telling them their place in their race. There will be a raffle for those that compete to be held on the day so hang onto your tickets!!

THANKS

To the parents that have been able to assist on the day.

Good Luck to all students
