Visual Arts

We are thrilled to have had James Giddy here as our artist-in-residence. James has spent the week painting the Osprey on the Tamungup Centre. Inside the body of the Osprey are scenes of the Fish Traps and Oyster Harbour. The Osprey is clutching a herring in its left claw.

The mural has come to life quickly and students and staff have enjoyed being able to talk to James as he was working. James’s murals can be found throughout Perth including Padbury, Peter Moyes’s Anglican School, Curtin University and Subiaco. You might have even seen his work at Borden Primary School! He has mural work throughout Australia and some international pieces.

The Osprey mural will enhance our school grounds for years to come.

James shared with Year Eleven Visual Arts student, Lily Quick, that he is inspired by photos and films and that he takes inspiration from lots of different styles of Art. His grandfather’s watercolour painting influenced him as a child and lino printing has influenced his current work where he uses the black outline with the coloured landscape inside. James does lots of small sketches before working on a large mural. This helps the accuracy of the linework.

Media

Last year’s Year Twelve student Henry Baker has had two short films selected to be screened at the General Media Perspectives 2023. This is a short film festival that collects and celebrates the work of the previous year’s General Media Production and Analysis media students from around the state. Both of Henry’s films from last year, Lemon and the Pelicans and Old and Valued have been selected to be screened at the event in Perth. The screening will be held on the big cinema screen at Midland Ace Cinemas on 26 April 2023, tickets can be purchased here via this link https://www.trybooking.com/CGUEP

Congratulations Henry!

Music

On Wednesday night the VET Music students presented their first VET Show for 2023. It was great fun to have both year groups and all their families enjoying the fun of the show together for the first time since 2019. Big thanks to Mrs McAllister and the Year Twelve Hospitality students for delicious hot coffees and drinks throughout the night.

The music ranged from Queen, to ABBA, to Muse, to the very loud King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard with amazing work and performances from all the students.
