From the Principal

Lent

As we approach Holy Week, some of the most sacred days in the church calendar – including Easter, which commemorates Christians’ central belief that Jesus was crucified and buried before rising from the dead.

But if Easter is associated with celebration and triumphal joy, Lent is more a season of soul-searching and spiritual discipline. I do remember some years ago my young son proudly informed me that he was giving up sausages for Lent. He did not enjoy sausages, so it was an opportunity to remove them from the family menu. Christians live out Lent in many different ways. Lent in the 21st century remains essentially the same as in centuries past,  a time of quiet personal reflection and spiritual discipline.

Vineyard

On Wednesday morning, with student, staff and parent support we were able to pick the ripened grapes from our vines. The collaboration amongst the pickers was systematic, although at times needed adjustment to cater for the enthusiastic actions of our boarding students. The extra time taken was an indication of our commitment to ensure that the grapes found their way to the relevant collection stations. I would like to thank our Facilities team, the Sustainable Production team, Chef Nick, students, parents and staff for all your efforts.

2023 Student Residential Address and Other Information

The Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment (the department) would like to notify you that a request has been made for Great Southern Grammar to provide residential address and other information as required under the Australian Education Regulation 2013

The school is required to provide the department with the following information about each student at the school:

  • Names and residential addresses of student’s parent(s) and/or guardian(s)
  • Student residential address (excluding student names)
  • Whether the student is a primary or secondary student (education level)
  • Whether the student is boarding or a day student (boarding status)

The Student Residential Address and Other Information Collection (the Collection) informs Australian Government school education policy and helps ensure funding for non-government schools is based on need.

The information collected will be used to inform school funding calculations. It is combined with Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data to calculate a non-government school community’s anticipated capacity to contribute to schooling costs.
