Sustainability at TCC

Nude Food Day

Students gathered last Thursday for our Nude Food Day Picnic. Spread over picnic blankets and nearby grassed areas, students and staff enjoyed their food while being entertained by live music from student band ‘The Elliminations’, who helped to create a very enjoyable atmosphere.

I would like to thank all students and staff who participated in the event and for giving attention to our need to develop sustainable and positive habits in reducing the amount of waste that we create through food packaging.

Remember that every day is an opportunity to choose foods that are free of single-use packaging. There’s no doubt that single-use packaging is everywhere in our daily lives but the more we try to go without it, when we can, the better. Every small action counts.

Lunchbox stands to encourage Nude Food

Beginning this week students will notice new wire basket stands located at the entryway to each of the year level buildings around the school.

These new ‘lunchbox stands’ have been purchased to better support our students who bring Nude Food items to school, and these will help us to promote the use of re-usable containers and lunchboxes.

Students can place their lunchboxes and containers within these stands so that they can move off around the school yard after eating and not have to carry their lunchboxes with them.

At the end of break times, students can collect their lunchboxes and containers when they already walk past the lunchbox stands on their way to their lockers to collect their books for their next class.

Not only do we hope to see students using this opportunity to bring package-free foods but also that students are encouraged to employ healthy eating habits. The best Nude Foods include various kinds of fruits and vegetables that are already conveniently packaged in their own biodegradable skin or foods prepared at home that can be placed within a re-suable container without requiring single-use wrapping.

From Monday 20th March, a new eating time will be introduced for the first 10 minutes of Break 1 to encourage students to eat their food and properly dispose of rubbish or place their lunchboxes in the stands as appropriate.

More information outlining this eating time is outlined for students on SIMON and parents on PAM. Eating throughout the day, preferably healthy meals, is essential for us to function, concentrate, learn and good food choices are vital for our health.

Prioritising Nude Foods will assist in reducing the amount of litter that occurs at Trinity and avoid problems that arise because of littering.

I would like to thank all efforts of students, staff and parents that already happens around Nude Food. Your positivity and willingness to act for positive change does make a difference.
