Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

Thanks to everyone who attended Open Day

Our College Open Day took place on Wednesday this week and proved to be a great showcase of all our school has to offer.

The day provided an opportunity for prospective students and their families to visit and tour the school, either during the day while the school was in operation or at the end of the day where subject stalls and presentations took place.

I am pleased to report that the day was a great success with large numbers of visitors taking up the opportunity to learn more about the education Trinity College can offer their child.

We had over 60 current students offer to help out with tours, take part in musical performances, distribute food or help with displays. These students did a fantastic job and represented their school with pride and distinction.

Others were involved in rehearsals that evening for "The Addams Family" and participating on the oval in our Sporting Excellence Program which also provided an insight into school life.

Our staff should also be congratulated for the pride they displayed in hosting tours and activities, and just being available to families to answer any questions they had.

If you know of anyone who missed out on Open Day, tours are still available, so please direct them to our website to make a booking or they can always phone the office.

This link will also take them to the bookings:  https://enrol.tcc.vic.edu.au/events/

Tours will be conducted next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Catholic Identity

Our staff professional learning day on Thursday had a Catholic Identity focus.

Former Trinity College Principal, Brother Clem Barrett, was our guest presenter for the day and took the staff through a journey of his time working in Africa as Principal of Edmund Rice Secondary School in Arusha, Tanzania, a school that Trinity College has taken Year 12 students to in the past.

The way the African children Brother Clem spoke about value the opportunities that the education their families sacrifice to provide for them is something that all of our students would benefit from hearing about, so we look forward to sharing Brother Clem’s story with them.

The remainder of the day was spent exploring the challenges Catholic schools have in maintaining their identity in an increasingly secular society and how we can best meet the needs of our students by ensuring our religious education curriculum and catholic identity remain relevant to all students and staff.

The end of the term is fast approaching and it has certainly been a busy time for us all. Our senior students are facing lots of assessments and doing their best to balance the pressures of VCE and their outside endeavours, such as part-time work, and what is often a busy social calendar.

It is a good time to remind all of our families that if your child is struggling in any way with the demands placed on them, please make sure you contact their year level coordinator so that the appropriate supports can be accessed.

A reminder that next Tuesday is our Athletics Sports. This is a compulsory day for all students, whether they are competing or not. Dressing up in House colours and either competing or cheering for those who are, helps create a positive House culture that fosters strong relationships across year levels.

Finally, I would like to encourage all our families to donate an Easter Egg to our Easter raffle and purchase some raffle tickets. The more eggs that are donated the more prizes on offer and the money raised from the raffle will support all the tremendous work done by Caritas.

Kind Regards
