THE JOY OF MUSIC

By Darryl Thompson (Music Teacher)

Earlier this month, around fourteen students took part in the annual CSEN Music Event. While this year's event took place very early in the year and with minimal preparation, nevertheless the students who went enjoyed the opportunity to combine with musical students from other schools in our network.

Seasoned regulars were able to catch up with others from previous years, while for the newbies, it was time to start new friendships and discover the joy of playing and singing in a large group. The first rehearsal was held at Maranatha's Officer Campus, then the next day was spent rehearsing at Belgrave Heights Convention Centre, followed that evening by the Showcase for parents.

The joy that this event generates carries on throughout the year and definitely compensates for the effort. We're already looking forward to next year!

PROGRESS WITH OUR WILDSPACE PLAYGROUND

By Peter Cliffe (Principal)

Work is well underway with the construction of our fantastic new natural play space in the 'Wildspace' area of the school. Pictured below is the two story play fort which is nearing completion.

The play fort alone includes a cubby, fire pole, two slides, board walk and viewing platform.  Below you can see a drawing of the overall design of the play space.

Once completed, part way through Term 2, BHCS will have one of the most amazing and expansive natural play spaces of any school in Australia.

We can't wait for it to be ready!

A TASTE OF FRANCE

By Daniel Dema (Secondary French Teacher)

On Monday, 27 March, our Year 9 and 10 French students went on an excursion to the French Film Festival in Melbourne. We watched the movie Tempête (Ride Above), about a young girl who doesn’t let a terrible accident prevent her from pursuing her dream of becoming a jockey. The movie depicts country life in modern day France, and focuses on complex family relationships, as they try to succeed in the racehorse industry while also coping with their daughter's disability. Webelieve that our students enjoyed the movie, and we were also very proud of their exemplary behaviour and willingness to order their lunch in French.

CELEBRATING THE CREATIVE TALENT OF THE YARRA RANGES AT BURRINJA GALLERY

By Karelyn Joy (Secondary Art Teacher)

Each year the Yarra Ranges council invites emerging artists from the previous graduating year to showcase their talents.  Two of our past students, Taye Desta and Sasha Whittaker were selected to exhibit their VCE Studio Artworks and folios in the 2023 Creative Showcase.

The opening night was a huge success, attended by our Art department staff and several past students, who came along to encourage these students.

Light music & refreshments were served and speeches from several students opened the Exhibition.

Our students proudly represented BHCS on the night and also at the School Engagement programs where they presented to secondary students from other Yarra Ranges schools.
