Ms Christine Larsen - Curriculum Leader The Arts

From the Visual Art Department

To prepare for their Unit 1 Responding task, Year 11 Visual Art students participated in a full-day excursion where they visited Mitchell Fine Art Gallery to view the Directors’ Choice exhibition, the Gallery of Modern Art to view “Air” and the Museum of Brisbane at City Hall to experience “Play Moves”. The students immersed themselves in a range of contemporary artworks, many of which were interactive and encouraged audience participation. The “Play Moves” exhibition was certainly the highlight of the day, with each installation providing a participatory experience for the students to step into, touch, weave, move, dance, build and embrace the artworks in order to leave their own mark on the show with every interaction making the artworks change, grow and come alive. The exhibition draws on the notion of “play” as a method of learning about the world to facilitate innovation, divergent thinking, creativity and social connection.

The new Senior aprons also arrived which Year 12 Visual Art students have been wearing proudly each lesson to protect their uniforms from paint, clay, ink, gesso and various other materials that always seem to find a way to stain uniform fabric, (hopefully now a phenomenon of the past).
