Sunday Night Mass

Boarding Recreation - Mr Blair Whitlock

We had a very busy weekend of rec with the boarders arvo feast kicking things off on Friday. The Year 7-9 boys headed off to St Laurence’s College for their first set of Internal Volleyball games against another school. The Volleyball has been a great way to get the boys working together as a team. We look forward to hosting St Laurence’s next week, ahead of the final games against Nudgee College on the 17 March. Meanwhile, the Year 10-12 boarders headed over to Coorparoo for the AFL 1st’s top-of-the-table clash against St Laurence’s. In a must-win game, the boys put on their performance of the season and are now in poll position for a first AFL premiership. Well done to the many boarders contributing to the AFL success! Friday finished off with a trip to Eat Street with several other boarding schools. It’s always a fan favourite and a great way to spend a Friday night!

Saturday sport was away against St Patrick’s College with many boys heading up to Shorncliffe for their AFL, Cricket and Volleyball matches. It’s great to see so many boys involved in Saturday sport and makes for very quiet dorms in the morning! It was a cracking day and we opened up the pool in the afternoon to cool off. The Year 10 boys headed over to Stuartholme in the evening for a Mocktail Night with several other boarding schools while another group of 20 boys headed down to Southbank to watch the new Creed movie.

The Year 7 and 8 boys had an early start on Sunday morning for the Ashgrove Junior Park Run down on the Flats. The early start is always met with a few grumbles however they always enjoy the run once we get going and there was a great turnout this week. A Sunday morning fry-up was waiting for us after the run and then we headed up to the chapel for a morning mass with Father Tini. A quick trip to Southbank was squeezed in before the highlight of the weekend which was Round 1 of the NRL. We had 32 boys at Suncorp for the Dolphins first-ever game against the Sydney Roosters. The atmosphere was electric with 30,000 people in attendance to see a strong first performance with the Dolphins winning 28-18. Safe to say they have a few new fans around the dorms. Phins up!! There are a couple of QLD derbies (Broncos vs Cowboys and Broncos vs Dolphins) before the end of term which we’ll look to get tickets for too. Another great weekend in the books!
