Senior School

Years 10 to 12

Term 1 Senior School Report

As we reset our clocks from Daylight Savings time and look ahead at the months ahead, Senior School would like to wish our students and families a safe and enjoyable mid-term break.  Term 1 has been a big one for our students in Senior School.

The year 12’s are well on their way now into their final year of school and the work and expectations continue to increase. Starting the year off with the Apollo23 Camp has however given this cohort a wonderful start. They continue to impress us with their resilience, strong work ethic and support for one another.

The Year 11 students have charged into Unit 1 of VCE and VM with enthusiasm. All the students are coming to terms with the next level of pressure and are responding well. In Term 2, students and families will be made aware of the Apollo24 Camp. These details will include the venue, costings, as well as guest presenters. It will be something that students heading into Year 12 will not want to miss!!

Year 10 are still adjusting to life in Senior School. Students are halfway through their elective classes for Semester 1. Term 2 will fly and before they know it, they will be having to make decisions on what their final two years of school will look like. Big decisions for the students and their families which need careful consideration.

Looking ahead, Term 2 is going to be busy for Senior School. Families will need to keep in mind that for Year 11 and 12 students, Unit 1 results will be required at the start of June. This means that any students who are at risk of not completing the required coursework/SAC’s for either VCE or VM units 1 or 3 will be contacted early in the term for a meeting.

Term 2 also brings Year 10 and 11 exams which is an important program for students in senior school. Please continue to follow upcoming newsletters early Term 2 for further information.

Have a wonderful break!

Yr 12 Students v Staff Netball

On Tuesday, April 4th, the annual Staff versus Year 12 Students Mixed Netball game was held in the stadium with all important bragging rights on the line once again. The teachers went into the day having won the six prior matches against each preceding Year 12 cohort and went into the day feeling extremely confident in their ability to get the job done again. The 2023 Year 12 group themselves also felt quite confident as they strut their stuff with some impressive movements in the warm-up period, but ultimately, once the game was underway it was the students who quickly buckled under the impressive shooting prowess of Ms Riley, Ms Anglin, and Mr James, the mid-court dash of Ms Penn, Mr Alexopoulos, and Ms Hall, as well as the defensive strength of the Ms Moore, Mr Freeman, Mr Mills, and Mr Mallach, with the teachers taking out the match 17-10.

Congratulations to all staff and students who participated, and we’re all looking forward to round 2 when the Staff and Students once again go head-to-head in Term 2 in a game of Mixed-Basketball.

Year 11 Presentation Ball 17th and 18th March

On the 17th March my partner Walter and I completed our presentation ball. The night was magical and everything I dreamed of. The feeling of getting ready and putting the dress on made me feel like a princess.  I would like to thank Gayle and Andrew from Debutantes on High and Megan Penn for making the night happen. At the beginning the dances seemed really hard but once you get the hang of it, they are the easiest thing to complete. Walking out onto the floor in front of everyone and dancing makes you feel special, and you never want it to end. I would recommend doing deb/presentation ball to everyone. It truly is one of the best nights of your life.

On Saturday the 18th of March, a group of the year 11’s participated in the Presentation Ball at Melrose Reception Centre. I would like to thank Megan Penn for organising the night for us and giving us the opportunity to learn all the dances and have as much fun as we did in the process, I’m glad you were able to make it to both nights, and to Andrew and Gale for coming to the school each week and putting up with such a big group of students, we are all very grateful to them both. The whole experience was so much fun and I would highly recommend the presentation ball to anyone who gets the chance to do it. It’s a night to get dressed up, hair and makeup done and dance with your friends and your amazing deb partner as well as having guests on the dance floor. We all had so much fun on the night and were all exhausted by the end of the night but would do it again any day.

The atmosphere of this night was incredible. The debutant ball was one of my favourite nights ever I had so much fun and made lifelong memories. Both me and my partner Lincoln B, were non-stop smiling all night even when we mucked up the dance a few times we just laughed it off and no one even realised we had messed up. I was so excited for the night I decided to get ready at 9 in the morning. So, my hair and makeup were done by 10:30 and I was in my dress and ready at 11. We didn’t have to be at the venue until 3-3:30 so when Lincoln came over, we took some photos at a friend’s house in their beautiful backyard. We headed to the venue in a 1956 Desoto. We were one of the first couples to arrive. Once we were filmed getting out of the car and walking in, we had to get our couple photos done and we were given our flowers. We went through some of the dances and what was going to happen when the guests arrived before we had a snack of hot chips and mini sandwiches. After our snack we went through a whole dress rehearsal and run through what the night was going to be like before we had to hide upstairs behind curtains waiting for the guests to come in and be seated. The boys started lining up for their dance while us girls went to line up behind a fire door ready for our partners to come get us and walk out for our introductions. Waiting for the boys to finish their dance was so nerve racking because we couldn’t hear or see what was happening. Before walking out onto the dance floor. For our introduction I was so nervous my hands were shaking, and my legs were jelly. We walked out arm in arm and waited for our cue to move on. Finally, our couple dances started. Not to brag but I think me and Linc did pretty well. After the dances were complete everyone was pulled onto the dance floor and the feeling in the air at the time was exhilarating. It was so loud and hot in the venue you couldn’t hear the person next to you without yelling. The night was just amazing. I can’t think of any other way to describe it but amazing. I miss it already.
