Outdoor & Environmental Studies camp

The year 11 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class has been exploring different environments and activities this term. We started off heading to St Kilda to learn how to Kite Surf. The day was a little cold but the wind was great for learning to kite surf and so this, along with some amazing instructors, led to a successful day with some of the students being able to stand up on the board and complete some runs by the end of the day!

The Year 11 OES class then followed this up by planning a three-day hike in the high country, including menu preparation and route selection. The students completed the hike which included summiting Mt Stirling and observing how the ecosystems changed with varying altitudes. Throughout the hike, the students cooked for themselves and were responsible for setting up their tents and packing everything into their packs for the trip.

The students did a fantastic job despite the rain and thunderstorms, even managing to light a fire with flints and set up tents in the rain (with varying degrees of success!). The students all managed to have fun and learn lots, although the view from the summit of Mt Stirling left a lot to the imagination!
