Year 9 Geography Visits Community Garden

On the 9th of March, Year 9 Geography students ventured out to the Gravel Hill Community Garden to gather data for their Food Security assessment task. After a brisk walk, the cohort was met in the garden by Geoff and Mohammed, two knowledgeable and welcoming volunteers at the garden.

Students observed the gardens and asked plenty of questions to gather data pertaining to food security, including:

  • methods used at the garden to reduce waste;
  • natural strategies to manage insects and other pests;
  • practices to reduce water usage;
  • and the economic sustainability of the gardens.

The weather was glorious, the gardens were lovely, and students relished the chance to learn in the great outdoors. Thank y to Ms Jinari Mountain for doing the lion’s share of organising this field trip for the students.
