Year 5/6 News

Welcome

As we all continue to navigate our way through the current way forward of Online Learning the 5/6 teachers would like to thank all our families for their ongoing support. With the new dynamics there are ups and downs and highs and lows but as a year level we continue to focus on being grateful for what we do have. The idea of gratitude is a wonderful way of keeping everyone in a positive headspace and we are sure it has helped the students to be so adept at maintaining a positive attitude. During Week Two we introduced the concept of gratitude by asking the students to name three things they are grateful for and why. Since then it has been a focus for all students to continue to nominate three things they are grateful for each day. The students have embraced this idea as we continue to share the things we are grateful for each day.

We understand the current arrangements continue to challenge everyone and we encourage you to get in contact if you have any concerns. In any case, we look forward to catching up with you all on Thursday at Parent/Teacher interviews.

Extra Support

We are very mindful during Online Learning of the fact that sometimes the students can find the tasks a little difficult to understand. We are running extra support sessions during the day so if there is a certain task that your child is challenged by, there is an opportunity to join one of these sessions. Please contact your Homeroom teacher for more information.

'In God's Hands'

One of the highlights of Term 2 so has been the students participation and responses to the In God's Hands' image. The discussion around this image was quite revealing and enlightening as the students pondered what the key messages were from the Arte Carde depiction. As a result of these discussions the students written responses were again extremely thought provoking and provided us teachers with some fascinating insights into the student's thinking. Even though this was an activity for Religion there was a variety of skills and learning that came out of this task. The students showed an ability to draw on different perspectives, they used evidence from the image to infer a range of ideas and the students were also able to appreciate the infinite possibility of art.

Here are some of the students comments;

Think-

  • I think how the health workers are doing their best and risking their lives to save others.
  • I think the picture shows healing, love, strength and countries uniting.
  • Our belief towards God will continue to strengthen us

See-

  • I see Jesus showing love to the world and holding onto us during this tough time.
  • Earth portrayed as a person.
  • A world in pain from people hurting it.

Wonder-

  • I wonder how Jesus is feeling? Is he feeling calm, panicked, upset or hopeful
  • How would Jesus feel about us right now?
  • Is the world crying because we have let it down or is Jesus crying because we have let him down.
