Year 3/4 News

Thank you......
We would like to extend a big THANK YOU! to all our 3/4 families. Your support over the past few weeks has been invaluable. We have appreciated your patience, understan ding and help in supporting your child with their learning. We empathise on how challenging it can be at home, and during these times we are reminded as parents that we are our child's prime educator. With every experience, we know that each child continues to learn and develop their skills.
Supporting Learning
As we continue our Home Online Learning Program, we would like to inform you that starting this week, we in 3/4 will be providing your child with extra 'working time' support between
12-1 pm- daily (except on Wednesdays).
A zoom link will be posted daily in Google Classroom. This is an opportunity for the children to work while the teacher/LSO is present. We will revisit any tasks not understood or model activities.
Learning Intentions
Timetable
Literacy
This term in writing our focus has been writing procedures in a creative way. Students designed and created either a game, recipe or an experiment. Students went through the following process: design, create, recording the procedure and finally, recording themselves explaining the 'How to...'.
Maths
One of the highlights this term has been symmetry and location. Students explored symmetry around their own home environments. They were able to identify that shapes/objects were symmetrical. Students created symmetrical art and drew their own symmetrical pictures. Many thought out of the box and found things lying around their homes!
In the skill of Mapping and Location, we imagined that a famous, wealthy entrepreneur asked students to create their dream location. The wealthy entrepreneur was willing to purchase a block of land, of any size, anywhere, and for anything! Students had to create their dream location, ensure that the maps had coordinates and it was to scale.
Religious Education
This term students revisited the significance of the events in Holy Week....
Students also explored Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. They were no longer students, as they had become news reporters!
Crime Scene Investigation: Jerusalem
The Case of Jesus of Nazareth
Problem Based Learning
So far this Term, students have investigated environments around their home and the world. Between these environments, we spoke about the importance of communicating and why we communicate. The students said that we communicate to learn from each other, to support one another and to also find out information. The problem which the students had to solve was to invent a new product, or improve one that currently exists, which people could use to communicate from opposite sides of the world.
This week the students will be having a go at building their own designs into a prototype!
Premiers Reading Challenge
We remind students that the 2020 Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open! What a great time to start reading!
