Year 1/2 News

Home Online Learning Week 4
Welcome to Week 4 of Online learning! It has been wonderful to see all of the children smiling and excited to see their friends and teachers over Zoom over the past 2 weeks. The Year 1/2 students have shown persistence and resilience using both Zoom and Google Classrooms to complete their required tasks so far. We have seen some fantastic work and look forward to the weeks to come.
Don’t forget to make note of the activity students need to upload to Google classroom each day. Highlighted next to the chosen activity will say "Upload this as an assignment on Google Classroom." Once work is uploaded, teachers review each student's submission and then post feedback, so that parents and students are aware of future goals.
Our timetable is now uploaded at 7pm the night prior to allow for parents and carers to prepare for the day’s learning ahead. We hope this has provided convenience and ease in preparation for the day’s set tasks. Remember that we are just an email away if you need any support or clarification during this transition.
Just a reminder that on Thursday 7th May, our Parent Teacher Meetings will be held via Zoom from 12 pm.

Our Learning (Week 2 & 3)
As your teachers, we feel extremely proud of the way the children have adapted to learning online from home over the past few weeks. Parents have done a great job in supporting too, so we also thank all parents and carers. We understand the extra demands home learning brings and we want to remind all of you that we are all in this together.
Watch a snapshot!
Here are some of the creative and engaging activities students in Year 1/2 have been up to the past fortnight!
Mathematics
In Maths, we have been collecting data around our household to display in tables, tallies and picture graphs.
Writing
In Writing this term, our focus has been on letter writing and the key parts of letters. Students have focused on writing full sentences which include an uppercase letter, a full stop, good spaces between words and that it makes sense. Students have also been identifying different parts of speech, including nouns, verbs and adjectives and how they can make our writing more interesting.
Students wrote letters to their parents convincing them to get their perfect pet from their Virtual Zoo excursion. Have a read of some of the convincing reasons students should get their chosen zoo animal!
Religion
In Religion, students were asked to write their own prayer about being grateful for something in their life. Here are some of the prayers that were written from the heart.
Premier's Reading Challenge
We remind students that the 2020 Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open! We can't wait to see the terrific reading our students get up to!
