Careers News

Alternative Pathways Evening
On Thursday May 31st at 7pm in the College Library, we will have information for students who may be considering an alternative pathway to the VCE. Guest presenters will cover topics such as Apprenticeships, VET (Vocational Education and Training) and VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning), which is the alternative Year 12 qualification. There will also be an opportunity to speak individually with speakers at the end. This is an ideal opportunity for you to become fully informed regarding the alternatives on offer, even if your child considers a traditional VCE pathway as their current plan.
Students in Years 9 and 10 looking to attend the upcoming 'VET Taster' sessions can also submit their signed permission forms to us on the night. These forms have already been distributed to interested students. Additional copies are available in the careers office.
Work Experience
This important part of our Year 10 Careers Program is fast approaching. The deadline for paperwork submission is May 31st. If your Year 10 student requires additional support to find a placement, please ask them to see Mr. Pitt or Mrs. Perkins in the Careers Office this week. No Year 10 classes will run during the Work Experience week from June 25th – 29th.
Careers Newsletter
As we approach the important time for student decision making regarding subject selections and pathways for 2019, I would like to remind parents of the Careers Newsletter. This regular publication contains information from Universities and TAFEs, in addition to GAP year options and more and can be accessed via the Compass Newsfeed.
Careers Website
The majority of pathways and careers information you require can be found on the Viewbank College Careers Website. This one stop shop has links to all things careers including how to apply for a tax file number, how to apply for university and TAFE, course search engines and useful tips for parents supporting their child with their pathways decision making. The calendar function also contains links to tertiary open days and information sessions. If you have not done so already, I strongly suggest you take some time to regularly explore this comprehensive resource. Students in Years 9-12 use this website to explore and manage their career planning on a regular basis. Go to www.viewbankcollegecareers.com
