Assistant Principal’s Report

 Mrs Pamela Lambert

Term Four is always very busy for students and teachers and it is hard to believe we are only beginning week three.  The term began with us welcoming the college’s substantive Principal, Mr. Warren Dawson and we are looking forward to a positive future under the leadership of Mr. Dawson.  We then got straight down to the business of working with students to assist them to obtain the best possible academic result this year and to prepare for 2016.

Exams

Students will be working hard to improve their knowledge and understanding of the work presented so they can excel in the testing and exams that will be occurring this term.

Year 12 (unit 3 & 4) English exam will be held on October 28.  It is vital that the students use the time until the exams wisely as it can make a big difference to the academic result.  If you have a child completing a Unit 3 and 4 study, please encourage him/her to make good use of the time, to eat well and to get enough rest.  Formal classes will end on Wednesday for Year 12 students, however teachers are still available to assist students and I encourage students to make really good use of this resource.  Teachers will answer questions, mark practice questions or exams and give students feedback – this is the best way to ensure that you have an understanding of the topic.

Year 11 exams will begin on November 2 and Year 9 and 10 will have exams on November 19 and 20.  Junior students will have formal testing in class time.

Promotion Program

In order to prepare students for the following year and to ensure that all class time matters, the college has a promotion program and attendance during this time is compulsory.  Students will begin the work of the year that they will be promoted to.  Unit 3 & 4 studies will begin on November 16 and continue until November 26.  Year 11 (2016) will begin unit 1 & 2 studies on November 30 and finish on December 4, while Year 8 – 10 (2016) will have the promotion program from November 30 until December 11.  During the last week of school, there will be an activity program, more details about the program will go home shortly.

Sugary Drinks

As the weather has warmed, we have noticed that some students have begun to bring two litre bottles of soft drink or sweetened milk to school.  I encourage all parents/carers and students to look at the site http://www.rethinksugarydrink.org.au/how-much-sugar to see how much sugar is in these drinks.  5gms of sugar is equivalent to one teaspoon of sugar.  We are concerned about the health and wellbeing of the young people who attend the college and this is why Energy Drinks and large soft drinks are not allowed at the college.

Best wishes and the best of luck

I would like to take the opportunity to wish all of the students the best in their exams.  May all students receive the academic result that they deserve.  To the Year 12 students; the effort that you have put into your school work, study and revision should prepare you for the exam, may you have the good luck to have exams that have questions that allow you to show your understanding and knowledge.  I wish you all not only success in your exams, but in the future outside the college.   The next step to tertiary education or employment is part of your career journey.  Remember to seize opportunities and to access your allies.  I look forward to hearing of your successes in the future.
