Caritas Australia Leadership Day
On Monday of week 11, 35 Mini Vinnies Students from Stage 2 and 3 attended a leadership workshop with students from St Joseph's Warialda and Mungindi. The students worked together with Chris Nolan from Caritas Australia, and we focused on ending poverty and promoting justice, all while upholding the dignity of those we are reaching out to. Students were treated with a visual representation of the Earth's resources, represented with m'n'm's, where one of the five students held 94% of the Earth's resources. Students had an opportunity to carry 5 litres of water through the hall to gain an understanding of the hardships faced by children who walk up to 2km each day to collect water. At the end of the day we worked together to think of new ways we can work together to raise funds and awareness.
Real Talk Australia - Returning to St Philomena's in May!
Real Talk Australia is coming back, week 2 - 6th, 7th and 8th May.
Students in Years 4, 6, 7 and 9 will attend a student seminar which has been designed to impact students in their decision making on the topics of sex, relationships and personal identity.
Parent Information Session:
Monday 6th May - 6pm
Information sessions for parents of students in Year 7 and 9 will be in the Learning Centre and parents of students in Year 4 and 6 will be in the Stage 3 space.
Parents are invited to, and strongly encouraged to attend with the session aiming to educate, encourage and equip. Real Talk believe that parents and guardians are the primary educators and motivators and should be supported in this role by what is taught at school. The parent information session is crucial when empowering parents, those who are most present in teenagers day-to-day lives to feel confident in dealing with today's issues. Real Talk provide strategies, tools and language for the important conversations and lessons on a range of topics.
