Senior School Report

At this time in the school year, we are leading up to final examinations for our Year 11 and Year 12 students. We hosted our Annual Year 12 Awards Night at the Clock Tower Centre on Wednesday 12 October, and Year 12 classes finish on Wednesday 19 October. The Year 11 students have their final assembly on the 28 October which is also the last day of classes for them.

The Senior Sub School provided a ‘Motivational Lunch’ for all the Year 12's on Wednesday September 14 during lunchtime. It recognised and acknowledged the hard work and sacrifices most of the students have made during Year 12 in the VCE and VCAL classes.

The ‘September Exams’ ran smoothly during the first week of the school holidays and the students got a ‘taste’ of where they are at with their studying and what sort of preparation is ahead of them leading up to the final exams.

On Friday 7 October, the Year 12 VCAL students had their interviews where they showcased their folios for the two years they were in the VCAL program and discussed with the panel the skills, knowledge and experience they gained in the program and what they plan to do in 2017. Students and teachers then celebrated by going to dinner at ‘Mesh’.  Once again, our students did us proud, behaving in a very respectful manner.

On Monday 10 October, the Year 12 VCAL students showcased the projects they were working on at the Sunshine Hospital. Students involved presented to guests and the schools PCO’s the strengths and challenges of the project and what they gained from the experience.  Afternoon tea was shared with patients and guests and all enjoyed a performance by our music group.

Year 11 VCAL students displayed their projects for ‘CHASE’ also on Monday 10. Groups showed a powerpoint and spoke of the projects' benefits to the community group targeted. Students were well prepared and spoke clearly and proudly of their work with their CHASE mentors.

Our 2016 Awards Night proved again to be a sensational evening, with a full house of students, their families and their teachers, coming together in a joyous celebration of the college's culture of success and life-long learning. Our Guest Speaker, a former student of St Albans High,  for the evening was Ms Simela Karasavidis.  Simela is one of the founding Partners of Pinsent Masons Australian operations. Pinsent Masons in a global commercial law firm with 21 offices around the world.  It has approximately 3000 staff, with 1800 lawyers and 400 partners.

The final Assembly for the Year 12 students was held at the college on the morning of Wednesday 19 October. At the conclusion of the Assembly, all Year 12 students joined together for a Celebration. The school provided a BBQ Brunch at the front of the school with some activities.

The Year 12 Exams begin on Wednesday 26 October  2016 - with English being their first exam - and conclude four weeks later. We encourage students and parents to read the VCAA VCE Exam Navigator and End of Year VCAA Exam Timetable, to check on the dates and times of exams. Students need to be at the exam center ‘Nindethana’ at least half an hour before reading time starts for each exam.  Every student doing Year 12 subjects was issued with a hard copy of the Exam Navigator by the school last term, however a pdf copy of the Exam Navigator is available from the VCAA website at the following address:

http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/documents/vcaanavigator_web.pdf

The VCAA VCE Exam Navigator also provides the information about what materials students are permitted to bring into each of their examinations. By reading this through with your child you can ensure that they attend their exams at the right time and with the right equipment.

The VCAA VCE Exam Navigator also has a lift out section with the End-of-year VCAA Exam Timetable.
