INTERACT Club

The INTERACT Club is a school-based offshoot of the well-known Rotary organisation and the students involved have had a very active year. Formed late in Term 2 they were an excellent support at our 60th Anniversary Open Day and they have now turned their attention to fundraising for the Smith Family. A BBQ will be held on 26 October at school.  President Tony Micallef & Vice-President Jason Huynh are encouraging all students to get behind this cause. A meeting will be held between the club and Brimbank Central Rotary President, Michael Donnelly, and Security/Public Officer Lou Gionfriddo, on Thursday 27 October to look at raising the profile of our INTERACT Club in 2017. The club wishes to thank Mr Orsini for his guidance and support in this important first year of operation.

City Experience

During the week commencing 10th October all Year 9 students participated in the annual City Experience program. Students travelled independently to the City, and experience things such as visiting the Shrine of Remembrance, going to the Eureka Tower, ice skating, bike riding and much more.

They also developed a research question, and surveyed members of the public to help them form conclusions. On Thursday 20 October students presented their finding to their peers, families and staff at a special Presentation Evening.

Well done to all the Year 9 students for representing the College so well,  and to Ms Kiran Pannu and the Humanities teachers for their organisation of the week.

Beacon Pledge

On Friday 14 October, all Year 10 students met in the Performing Arts Centre for our annual Beacon Pledge activity. In front of their peers, staff and community members, students commit to a positive pathway of either full time education or training, or employment when they leave school.

This year students showed their commitment by placing their thumb prints on a tree representing the Year 10 cohort. The community was represented by Mr Lou Gianfriddo from the Rotary Club of Brimbank Central.

Well done to the Beacon Ambassadors, Mr Brendan McFarland and Ms Lynda Vo for their organisation of the event.

Parent survey

Each year we are required to survey our parent group regarding their perceptions of the school. A sample selection of parents is at random, and they are asked questions relating to school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. This year 175 parents responded, and the College uses these results to help inform our planning,  processes and communication.

The results this year were outstanding. There was a  great increase in parent satisfaction, particularly in the school climate and student engagement sections. For example, Learning Focus went from the 53rd percentile to the 85th percentile when we are compared to all other secondary schools in the state. General satisfaction increased from the 70th percentile to the 88th percentile. There was a huge increase in the perception of students' Social Skills, from the 25th percentile to the 57th percentile.

Thank you to all the parents who took part in the survey. We are very  pleased with the results, and will continue to respond to feedback to best meet the needs and aspirations of the entire community.
