Beacon Pledge

Beacon Pledge 2016 – Friday 14 October
The Beacon Pledge is an important milestone for Year 10 as it celebrates the successes of the year and looks forward to continuing success in VCE and VCAL. It provides an opportunity for each student to sign a ‘pledge’ artefact. The pledge aims to ensure each student works to the best of their ability and strives for success in their chosen path, be it educational or in the workforce. This year the Beacon Ambassadors created a fantastic piece of artwork that represented the Year 10 students and, instead of the traditional signing, each student was able to put their thumbprint on the artwork. This artwork will now be located in the Middle School Office.
The five Beacon Ambassador; Cindy Nguyen, Tina Huynh, Kellie Phan, Kelly Ha and Steven To, spent many hours preparing for the afternoon. Their hard work and exceptional organisational and presentation skills were on show as the Beacon Pledge celebration got under way.
A highlight of the afternoon were the ex-students who were invited back to address the group, Myers Nguyen and Soraya Nusevic. They both spoke of their experiences throughout VCE and tertiary studies and gave the Year 10’s plenty of excellent advice for the coming years.
Excitement rippled throughout the crowd as each Year 10 class was pictured on a slideshow with hopes and dreams for the future on display. The Beacon Ambassadors organised some interactive games to decide who would win the three door prizes on offer which was a roaring success. The winners of the door prizes were very pleased with their win.
The last formality of the day was the ‘cutting of the cake’. The guest speakers and invited guests all wished the students all the best as they cut the cake and reinforced the importance of the ‘pledge’.
A huge thank you to all the Student Beacon Ambassadors in running such a great afternoon.
