Sport

The halfway mark of the term saw Senior and Intermediate student’s tryout in enormous numbers to make our school Volleyball teams. The sheer volume of students competing for a place on the team signifies the importance of school sport in building connectedness to school.

As the crowd begun to grow in the gym on Monday morning, the excitement and enthusiasm filled the air, underling the pride students have from getting off campus, and competing against friends and foes from the neighboring colleges.

Our Senior Girls & Boys and Intermediate Girls & Boys Volleyball teams marched to Casey Stadium to challenge Alkira, Cranbourne, Narre Warren P-12, Hampton Park and Lyndhurst. Our Senior Girls lost their first sets in their first few games, making it a challenge to come back. Despite going down, the girls demonstrated grit and resolve to go on and win their last two games. It was fantastic to see the girls working together and having fun to try and get over the line.

Our Intermediate Boys faced a similar fate to the Senior Girls, losing out in a tight battle to Hampton Park. This seemed to be the story of the day with the Senior Boys also going down in their first two games. Despite their early downfall, students demonstrated resilience and persevered allowing them to win their remaining games against Alkira and Lyndhurst.

It is always a pleasure taking our students out as they consistently model positive behaviour and represent the College with pride in their school uniforms. The high expectations we set as a school makes us is reflected in the students and is commented on when leaving the school.

In addition to the Volleyball teams we also had an Intermediate Boys and Girl’s Tennis team go out to Sweeney Reserve to compete against Alkira and Narre Warren.

Our first Girls game saw us take on Alkira where we fell agonizingly short in the head to head set count, only to redeem ourselves later in a match against Alkira Seniors with an impressive 4 sets to 1 win.

Overall, the girls fought admirably and played in good spirits throughout the day. The Boys got off to the perfect start beating Alkira in a closely fought battle, displaying some remarkable tennis. Despite losing out to Narre Warren, the boys finished in a gallant second place.

Cross Country

On a cold and wet Monday morning, 75 students were shuttled from school to Casey Fields to participate in the school cross country. This was the first time our school has hosted this event off site.

Optimistic and in high spirits about the challenge ahead of them, our students faced a 3km run around the multiple ovals situated at Casey, while the Senior Boys faced a grueling 5km track.

The pockets of sunshine were taken over by drizzles of the rain as our students were put through their paces in a warm-up to ensure students were adequately prepared to give their best performance on the track.

Students approached the trial with courage, endurance and determination to combat the drizzle and record some excellent times. Sanjay Kandel came out the quickest on the day running 11:03:18 on the day, with Alex Lazarevic closely behind running 11:26:92. Completing the podium was Tahmeed Reza finishing with a time of 12:07:69. Congratulations and good luck to the top ten runners from each age group heading to regionals, taking place in Term 2.

Coming up in Sport

Monday 15th March sees the Year 7 and 8 Girls and Boy’s tennis teams head to Sweeney Reserve to take on the neighboring schools in a round robin style tournament. In addition, the Year 7 and 8 Volleyball teams head to Casey Stadium whilst our Cricketers go to Donnelly Reserve for a shot at the prize. Over the past 4 weeks the volleyball teams have been enjoying lunchtime training sessions held by an external coach to prepare them for the competition.

Looking further afield, the whole school Athletics Carnival takes place in week 10 of this Term on Monday 29th March. This Athletics Carnival promises to be an exciting day for all students, with novelty events, food and drink stalls and some classic courtyard games. This is the first house event of the year, so students are encouraged to come in fancy dress to celebrate and support their house colour.

At CESC, we share a common moral purpose: “Giving every student every opportunity to exceed their potential by providing a high quality pathway to success”.

Kind regards,

Ollie Churchyard
