Homework is an integral part of student learning at St Bede’s College. Research demonstrates that homework at the secondary level has a positive effect on student achievement, although the way students approach homework can vary widely. Some students come home from school and complete their homework with little parent intervention, other students find homework challenging when there are competing demands on their time, while others prefer the support of a teacher to guide them through a task.

St Bede’s College offers a range of programs to support students with their homework. This week our 2021 Homework Help program commenced. It was great to see students gathered in the Resource Centre to complete their homework, work on assignments and revise for tests. Some students worked independently, while others collaborated with their peers. Some came for a short period of time, and others remained in the library working after Homework Help had finished. The students were assisted by Ms Kim Bucknell, one of the three Language Workshop teachers who will be in attendance each week to support students with their learning.

This year, Homework Help has partnered with the Lasallian Youth Leaders who will provide additional support to the students, and share their experience of school and work habits.

We would love to see more students take advantage of this program. We encourage you to chat to your son about the benefits of attending and look forward to seeing him at Homework Help.

Homework Help is offered to students in Years 7 – 9 on Wednesday afternoons from 3.30 - 4.15 pm in the Resource Centre.
