Learning Diversity

Bentleigh East

Such a busy and exciting time in the Learning Diversity Department.

We are working closely with St Bede’s Mentone to ensure that your sons have the best possible support across both campuses.

St Bede’s Bentleigh East Campus held their “I CAN Network” Parent Information Evening on the 18th of February and we are really looking forward to running the program, for the 6th year.

The “I CAN Network” Program celebrates the diversity, skills and unique attributes of a person on the Autism Spectrum.

It was enlightening to hear from some of the past and current participants during the Parent Evening. They proudly and openly shared their positive experiences, their development with leadership skills and their increased confidence with communication skills.

This year our Learning Diversity Department consists of eight Learning Support Officers that work within the classrooms to support the teachers and students, to access any adjustments that they may require, to assist them to navigate the curriculum and the day to day challenges of Secondary School.

Mary Atwell, Dee Barnard, John Saltis, Sophie Menegatos, Angie Almiento, Rosalin Patti, Marnie Brown and Billie Angelone are our current Learning Support Officers. Justin Shepherd, the College Student Coordinator and George Vlamakis, our College Counsellor, also play a vital role in the Learning Diversity Department.

The College works closely with personnel from the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS).   We are engaged with various consultants, who support staff to assist students who may present with a Physical, Cognitive, Sensory, or Social Emotional profile.

As well as many of the clubs that are offered throughout the College, the “Homework Club” has commenced in the Library, after school on a Tuesday, until 4:00pm.

We look forward to a successful and exciting 2021 and look forward to working with your sons to assist them throughout their educational journey at St Bede’s College Bentleigh East Campus.
