Time and Space: Father and Son Evening

Our Father and Son evening proved to be a successful evening with many young men and their fathers/mentor enjoying a positive night. There was a great focus on our relationships and how we can work together to support one another. As males we have the tendency to hold our emotions and thoughts in, so providing an opportunity where boys and their fathers/mentors can share in a safe environment will hopefully encourage further conversation in the future.

I would like to commend those who participated for taking time to build on their relationships with one another and for the manner in which this was achieved. To our staff, parent helpers and Year 10 leaders a huge thank you for your support throughout the evening.

Study versus Homework

As previous articles have had a focus on standards, expectations and routine which all support boys centred education. It is that time of the term when assessment and class work is coming in thick and fast. Boys may well indicate they have no homework, which really means that all their work is complete. Homework is essentially finishing off work or assignments. Whilst boys may well have no homework, they will always have study. Study is going further into their topics in which they are interested in or are finding challenging.

I encourage boys to look at what subjects they have the next day and to focus on these the night before, this will prepare them for when they enter that lesson. The routine and space for study to take pace must be one which is agreed upon as a family.

Phones

As you would have been made aware a reminder was sent out to parents regarding the use of phones. We do not under any circumstances expect to see students on phones during the school day.  If there is an unprecedented need or emergency, they are encouraged to go to student services and make contact there, not at their lockers or during break times. Phones should be locked away in their lockers to avoid any temptation. Boys can expect to have phones taken and handed into student services if they do not follow this directive.
