Vinnies Youth Induction Mass

Some of the Junior School boys joined in the celebration of the Vinnies Youth Induction Mass at St Therese’s Church earlier this week. Thank you to President Owen Thristan, Vice President Hunter Wright-Dawes, members William Rodgers, Cooper Browne and Jason Tang who attended the Mass. A special thanks to Owen who represented our group on the altar, collecting our badges and Vinnies candle. Well done to William Rodgers and Jason Tang who stepped up to read the Universal Prayers during the Mass. The boys showed great commitment to our support of the St Vincent de Paul Society and the great work they do.

Caritas Awareness and Fundraising and Easter Egg Raffles

The Mini Vinnies group is calling for donations of easter eggs to contribute to our annual Easter Egg Raffles which we hope to organise in the next couple of weeks. For those new to the campus, we accept donations of big and small eggs and Mrs Moate and Mrs Leon create around 20 raffle prizes. We also have a big jar filled with small eggs and have a ‘guess the amount’ competition. The Mini Vinnies group will sell tickets in the last 2-3 weeks of school, with all money raised going to support Caritas Australia and the great work they do in communities throughout Australia and Asia. Donations can be taken straight to the office or via the classroom.

Swimming Representative Carnivals

The SVC Junior School swimming team has now been chosen for JSSATIS (March 18 at Hobart Aquatic Centre) and STCPSSA (March 26 Hobart Aquatic Centre, please note the change of venue) swimming carnivals. An Edsmart notification has been sent to parents informing you if your son has made the team as well as other requirements. It is essential that all boys in the team, have the SVC Bathers. The Junior School office does have a small stock of these. Sadly, due to COVID related Government limits, spectators are not allowed to attend either carnival.

ICT Acceptable Use Agreement

A reminder for parents that this document was sent out via EdSmart late last week. Please read the document and indicate your agreement by digitally signing via the Edsmart note. Boys are having specific class sessions on the agreement and the responsibilities that come with using and looking after ICT for educational purposes. Each class is also spending some time discussing and completing activities around cyber safety. These are valuable discussions that can be continued at home and we appreciate your support.

Kinder News

Our Kindergarten class is settling in very well. It is wonderful to hear the happy play and see the boys learning to sit in a circle and share their news and ideas. At the moment they are exploring the theme of ‘the ocean’ and are led by their curiosity in discovering many interesting things. We often see pirates down in the Kinder yard playing and many of the boys have found some marvellous treasure in the playground. Our older boys also love to interact with the Kinders, particularly on their bush kinder days.

Yesterday, Mrs Norton was very happy to have some Grade 5 boys spend their lunch time helping and participating in the Kinder music class. In her words ‘It was wonderful to have those G5 helpers in the Kinder music class this afternoon. They were very helpful. I was so impressed by how they got totally into all the songs, activities, and actions. Such great role models to the Kindy’s and obviously a great opportunity to shine for the big boys. I’d be happy if any of them wanted to come again.’

This is great to hear. Thank you and well done to Hamish McGuire, Jacob Mee, Jasper Kitto, Oscar Butterworth-Barry and Lucas Beakley.

Soccer Star!

Last Friday, Charlie Oliver from 6L competed in a soccer competition before school. He went up against 'Producer Grace' from the Jimmy and Nath radio show. Charlie beat out a number of other children to score against Grace and to win the prize pool of $200 and a soccer survival kit. Well done, Charlie!
