Message from Gemma

Principal – St John's Footscray

Dear families and friends,

It is certainly great to be back on site. We are so very happy to be learning together.

Our teaching groups are well and truly underway after a period of assessment and data collection. Our teams have been conscious of gathering a range of data to ensure we are targeting needs and setting appropriate learning goals. Thank you for your patience.

Linda will be remaining for Term 2 (yay!) - her travelling dream has been put back a little. We are happy to keep Linda for as longgggggg as 'travel' is suspended.

Have you heard?

  • In the next few weeks Maria our music educator will be launching our St John's 'choir' group - this group will be for children who are interested and excited to commit to one session per week. We will have the pleasure of hearing our Choir at up and coming events.
  • Ukulele lunch time group will also hit the scene.

Details will be shared with hubs and interested children will be informed of all the details.

You may have noticed:

  • Our solar panels are complete - whoop whoop!! We are so happy to contribute in a greater way to our world.
  • We are now focusing on increasing areas on the yard to greater engage our children. Children have requested - cubbies, seating areas, water play and giant games. We are now onto purchasing these.
  • We hope to build a new under cover area (outside of the office) to create a more prominent entrance.

Traffic / Pick up: This is a constant battle. Please be patient with us as we find the best way to ensure safety for all.

We have had some communication from the hospital to help clear a path and keep road traffic flowing.

A few changes:

  • We are asking all bike riders to now 'park' at the farm. The bike racks will be relocated on Friday and begin from Monday. Children can then park and walk across crossing. A teacher will bring bike riders across to farm at the end of the day.
  • If you are walking or parking - therefore picking your child/ren up from Joan's yard - please enter yard as soon as gate opens. We will meet you on Joans yard - near the hut.
  • If driving - please drive around the block if there is a build up of traffic.

Communication

We are always very thankful to the open communication we receive, although we have been receiving emails (increasingly) well after work hours.  We currently have emails hitting our inbox at 9.30pm, 11.00pm and even 1.00am. We ask all families to email between work hours.  We understand we need to take our own advice and communicate within appropriate hours also.  We have had to push out a few messages late and for this we apologise. Please feel free to call the school office if an email is not appropriate and leave a message for the relevant person. We will ensure we return your call in a timely fashion.

Please remember to read the Learning and Teaching and admin page of the newsletter - there is a lot of information.

We thank everyone for the continued support we have felt. Coming from a remote 'year' has certainly presented challenges we did not expect. We have worked really hard to streamline our communication and hub ways of working.
