Top Class Dance

Top Class Dance

In Year 12 Dance, students are required to choreograph, rehearse, refine and perform 2 solos as part of their end of year examinations. Due to covid and remote learning, the class of 2020 were only required to perform 1 solo at the performance exam, the Cohesive Composition solo.

Rebekah Fox completed her Year 12 Dance subject in 2020 as an early start student.

Whilst completing remote learning in Term 3, Bek choreographed the majority of her solo at home, with limited space and resources.

When school resumed onsite in Term 4, Bek had only 3 weeks to refine her solo with the correct performance space requirements before her examination at the end of October.

To achieve the criteria for the Cohesive composition solo, Bek was required to demonstrate skill in the:

  • selection of movement vocabulary
  • rrangement of movement vocabulary to create an appropriate formal structure
  • manipulation of choreographic devices
  • manipulation of level
  • manipulation of direction
  • manipulation of eye/body focus
  • manipulation of dimension
  • use of performance practices and artistry to communicate the intention to the audience.

Bek received an A+ for her solo, resulting in an invitation to audition for Top class dance. Top class is a performance of the highest outstanding VCE dance students in the state.

Bek was successful at her audition and performed at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Thursday the 18th of March, 2021.

Seeing Bek on stage was a fantastic example of all of her hard work and determination throughout remote learning last year. Congratulations Bek!
