PRODUCTION CAMP

Every year when we near the end of term one, the production team go on a 3 day camp, (unless there is a global pandemic like last year!).

The Production Camp is used for rehearsing the show to make it the best possible performance we can give to an audience. But, everyone who went on camp got so much more out of it than that, everywhere you would look you would see students from all different year levels having fun and creating new memories that they will cherish forever.

In each rehearsal block whether acting, singing or dancing the cast gave 110% of their effort towards being the best performer they could be, and after the teachers saw how committed everyone was, they consistently gave back that enthusiastic and supportive energy.

After a rehearsal block the cast would gather in the dining hall where the senior students decide to take control of the music. So whilst we were waiting for our food, we all would start singing at the top of our lungs to our favourite show tunes and even some performances from past shows like the opening song to last year’s meant to be show ‘Catch me if you can’ performed by the amazing Tom Williams and the dance number from the song ‘Don’t break the rules’. However what was even more exiting was the trivia night where everyone dressed up as their favourite hero or villain with fun contests like a cat walk and the infamous ‘who has the best Mr Kruger impression’. All in all I believe it’s fair to say that everyone in the production team had a “wicked” time and we will all be looking forward to what’s to come.

Thomas Delaine – Production Captain.

Fortunately, we we’re able to go on production camp this year! This camp wasn’t just for rehearsing ‘Wicked’. It was a time in which the cast was able to get to know one another, and start to create bonds. The camp is ideal for inviting the new students and teachers into our family, introducing an illustration of the expectations we set. Camp unites all of us, allowing us to start rehearsals the right way.

Camp is one of the best times for the teachers, volunteers and cast to start rehearsing, blocking and perfecting scenes. I can confidently say on behalf of all involved that we can’t wait to get back for term two for more rehearsals, further preparing ourselves to give a phenomenal show of ‘Wicked’. I for one can say that I’m thoroughly impressed with how well the ensemble groups worked together and how fast they took in the information. Ensemble astonished all with their scenes that they buckled down on, and will continue to perfect. The ensemble members all had devotion as they moved around the stage when they were singing, dancing or acting, especially when performing for the whole cast and teacher/volunteer cohort on Tuesday.

Despite doing rehearsals, we also played team bonding games and, on the Monday, had a dress up trivia night. All teams were mixed year level groups ranging from years 7-12. Teamwork was shown as the competitive spirits came alive with all itching to win.

Meal times were as joyous as ever, with everyone smiling and singing. It’s always uplifting to see a room full of people who share a passion doing what they love. Thus, none of this would be possible without the workings of our beautiful cast, teachers and volunteers. All of which who put their time in for us, to make sure everything looks as incredible as it does each year.

We’re all so excited to perform in August and share what we’ve been working on to the community, family and friends. We hope you’re all excited to experience the magic that we can already feel building in ‘Wicked’.
