What a difference a year makes!

This time last year we had finished term 1 with our first ever period of remote learning. We were all experiencing our first lockdowns, borders were closing and cases were rising around the globe. Sadly, a group of our performing arts students and teachers were days away from heading overseas to Broadway for the trip of a lifetime, only to see the plug pulled at the very last minute. This was the beginning of many memorable school experiences that would be cancelled in 2020. A year later as we finish term 1, 2021, things have begun to return to normal. Last week we held our Open Night which was well attended by hundreds of people and this week we experienced the return of face to face parent teacher interviews. It has been great to have people back in the school creating a sense of energy and excitement! Year 8s also recently experienced Challenge Week, a series of excursions/events and challenges that students completed over five days and Year 12 dressed to impress for the Year 12 formal, hitting the dance floor with vigour for an enjoyable night.

Being able to provide memorable experiences outside the classroom is important, and it was also great news this week to announce the proposed Cairns Camp in September with the Year 11s. Let’s hope things continue the way they are and we can continue to improve what we offer both in and outside of the classroom.

I would like to farewell Ms Gaschk, who begins her maternity leave at the end of this term preparing for the impending arrival of her first child. On behalf of our school community I wish her all the best and look forward to a visit with the newborn in the not too distant future.

On behalf of all the staff I would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter and hope that everyone has an enjoyable break over the holidays!
