Principal's Report

Zoe Harlow

I hope that families enjoyed the school holidays. I treasured time with my family, friends and pets and had fun gardening, going for walks and watching some Netflix.

We have an exciting term ahead of us, with students working hard to continue their learning.  We are particularly looking forward to our annual Tally Way Day (8/12/2020).  Tally Way Day is a celebration of the school year and a chance for children to show ‘The Tally Way’ during a range of fun activities.  This will be one of our P&C’s major events this term and their support will help to make it amazing for our students.

Communication

Thank you for reading our newsletter!

I encourage all parents and carers to access our school Facebook page for school news, information and handy reminders.  This is a public page so you do not need to be a Facebook member to see our posts and can view it by using the hyperlink in the previous sentence or googling Tallebudgera State School Facebook.

Parents and carers are also able to opt in to receive texts with reminders and information from a parent representative from their class (i.e. Parent Rep Texts). If you haven’t yet done that and want to, you are welcome to contact our office for assistance.

Sports Days

Students enjoyed their sports days during the last week of Term 3.  You can read about the results on the Sport section of this newsletter and watch fantastic movies of highlights and races from these events on our Facebook page.

Thank you to Mr Craig Marais for organizing these wonderful events and Team Tally staff for their help to make the days so successful for our students.

COVID Safety Planning

The COVID-19 operating guidelines for Queensland state schools have not recently changed in relation to physical distancing in schools.

I very much want to be able to welcome groups of parents and carers back into the school but am unable to do so until the guidelines permit it.

At this stage, the COVID-19 operating guidelines for Queensland state schools state, “Schools will encourage staff, parents and other adult visitors to observe physical distancing measures by not congregating in areas inside or around the school. For example, it is important that parents do not gather before or after school, in the car park, at drop off and pick up time, outside classrooms or at the school gate.”

We want to maintain our close, caring community feel and to support parents and carers to be involved, so our P&C’s Tally Together events and our innovative ways of sharing events (e.g. the recent Online Music concert on Facebook) are very important at the moment.

Thank you to our whole school community for your understanding and support in relation to the necessary COVID-19 safety measures.

Volunteers

COVID-19 safety protocols apply to the work of volunteers in schools and it has been lovely seeing the friendly faces of parents and carers helping in the tuckshop and with P&C activities since last term. If you are a parent/carer who is interested in helping, please contact our tuckshop supervisor, Desiree Lees (dlees31@eq.edu.au) and/or our P&C (tallebudgerapandc@gmail.com). Parent/carer volunteers are not yet working in classrooms.

Report Cards

Report cards will be emailed to parents and carers during the last week of this term.

Road Safety

Teachers have recently revisited some important road safety messages with our students including paying attention when near or crossing a road, crossing the road safely and the importance of wearing a helmet when riding a bike.

2020 Prep Enrolments

Is your child due to start Prep in 2021? Enrolments are now open.  If you haven't already collected and returned the enrolment pack, please do so now so that you can receive information about Pounce into Prep, a website that includes a message from me, a virtual school tour and a lot of useful information and practical ideas to assist you to help your child before they start school.

Out of catchment applications will be considered in the order in which they are received.

Reminder - School Photos

School photos are tomorrow, Wednesday 14 October 2020.

Kind regards
