Infants and Primary

Year 5/6

Kindy Start for 2021 Kindergarten Students

Due to Department of Education Guidelines around COVID-19, our Kindy Start program for children starting school in 2021 will be taking on a different form this year.

Families will be notified of the innovative way will be approaching Kindy Start this year in the next week.

We look forward to working with our littlest learners and helping to ready them for big school.

Mrs Peta Proudford I Assistant Principal Infants

Infants

Year 1 students are flying through Term 3!

Students have been working on writing pieces of greater length and editing their work for spelling and punctuation. Their hard work and attention to detail are noticeably paying off! We have been expanding our vocabulary through our obsession with all things Captain Underpants, and it has been exciting to see students use interesting adjectives in their writing.

In maths, we have been practising our skip counting and early multiplication facts. We are growing in our confidence every day! We have also been working on correcting number reversals by practising the formation with concrete materials. Year 1 are keen mathematicians.

Miss Corrine Birney I Year 1 Teacher

Primary

It has been a busy few weeks of learning in primary classrooms. It is with a touch of sadness that we have had to cancel our upcoming NRL Gala Day for Year 5/6 and our Crookwell High School Planetarium visit for Stage 3 and 4. Unfortunately due to new restrictions, we cannot hold these excursions - however, we will do everything we can to provide great replacements!

Science Week

The primary classes were heavily engaged in Science Week. Miss Moorby from the high school set up an awesome escape room for us to try - and while we found it very challenging, we worked hard together in teams and used problem-solving skills to try and escape a nuclear submarine! Thank you to Miss Moorby for going to so much effort to provide it for us.

We've also been studying 'pointillism' in art, and we combined this focus with our Science Week Underwater theme to create some fantastic artworks which will be up in the library for all students to vote on this week. Keep an eye out for them!

We also enjoyed a virtual presentation from NASA and the Maritime Museum about upcoming missions to Mars - and learned all about Mars rovers, how they launch and the future of space exploration programs. It was very technical, but exciting at the same time!

Jason Stuart I Assistant Principal - Primary (Relieving)

Year 5/6

English

We are currently working on non-fiction explanation texts, specifically on 'The Water Cycle' to tie-in with Science Week. These pieces of writing will be published through our Google Classroom - and then we get to write our Explanation texts! We have also been exploring grammar and punctuation in our writing, specifically how we can improve writing using more advanced grammar and punctuation.

Mathematics

We have discovered that we are pretty good at column addition and subtraction this week - and we know exactly how to follow the process to solve number problems. There are times that we have trouble with written maths problems, so we need to make sure we are following the process for multi-step word problems and identifying the exact way to solve these problems.

STEM

In STEM we are continuing on our SPLAT unit of work, looking at designing robots and creating characters and objects using aspects of technical drawing. We're getting better and better every lesson!

We look forward to another great few weeks of term 3. It's incredible how fast this year is flying by!
