From the Deputy

For such a small school, I am always amazed by how much occurs behind the doors of our classrooms, each and every day. Not only is there great learning taking place, but there are also examples of care and consideration, kindness and inclusion. This has been the Positive Behaviour for Learning focus for the past week and it is clear to see it increasing in every classroom and workspace at Boorowa Central School.

When I met with Year 6 last week for their first Transition Day to Year 7, it was apparent that some of them were concerned that the new students from other primary schools could not join us due to the new COVID-19 restrictions. Across the day we put together a video and information package which will go on the Google Classroom for the students to start interacting with each other so that our newest students will feel at home in our school from their very first day next year.

I am always inspired by and grateful for the extra opportunities that our staff offer to students, beyond the classroom and in their own time. It might be Mr Stuart playing football with the primary students at lunchtime or Mr Jones and Mr Howlett and other athletic staff playing dodgeball with the secondary students on Fridays, whilst Ms Packwood runs an Art Club in her classroom at the same time. Unfortunately, the singing group that Ms Halls and I were hoping to start up again, has had to be postponed, but we are looking at ways to put the music online so interested students can start practising at home. Miss Moorby ensured that our minds were blown away with science last week, and we look forward to the Book Fair coming up in Week 7 to further expand our minds. Additionally, there are other opportunities for our students to extend themselves beyond the classroom. They can join the SRC, run by Ms Armstrong in Secondary and Mrs Corkhill in Primary. This ensures that students have a say in the organisation of school events. They could volunteer to assist in the Library, which is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during Lunch 2, or they could befriend someone who is sitting alone in the playground or classroom and just hang out.

There is plenty to do at Boroowa Central School when there are breaks from lessons, and if you have a great idea for something else that could be done during lunch or recess, drop by my office and let me know.

Have a great fortnight,

Ms Chris Hawkins I Deputy Principal (Acting)
