#DSCrecharge: Your day, your way

Term three has certainly not been easy, so as we head towards the finish line, students are excited about their upcoming #DSCrecharge day to press pause, relax and invest in some me-time.

We know how overwhelming it has been to endure months of remote learning, all while living in lockdown and missing seeing friends.

What is #DSCrecharge?

We are giving students from Years 7-10 a day of learning with a difference.  Guided by their own interests, students can spend the day developing a new skill.

Why is this important? Because we want students to remember that:

  • learning can happen away from a computer/devise
  • learning can be fun; and
  • learning about something we love is good for our wellbeing.

It's time to put away devices

Through conversations with our College community, we know that students have expressed a need to have time away from their devices.

How will the day be run?

On 9 September for years 7 - 9 and 16 September for Year 10s, students are to log onto Compass at the beginning of the school day to complete and submit a planning document. This document will outline how they intend to spend their day. Once this document has been submitted, students can log-off from their device and get started on learning their new skill. At the end of the school day, students will be required to log back into Compass to submit evidence of their learning.

What skills can students choose to learn?

Skills that students can learn are endless. They could include cooking, learning phrases from a foreign language, a physical skill, an engineering challenge, drawing a portrait or planting a veggie patch. The beauty is, the students can self-direct the area of their learning, depending on their interest or passion.

#DSCrecharge is empowering

Students will benefit from being independent in their learning, and achieving a skill that is meaningful to them.

DSC teachers and staff are excited to support students in this fun and creative day. We hope it reignites their interest in learning, and reminds them that regardless of what's happening in the world around them, there is always joy to be found by following a passion within.
