Technology Online Learning

These past few weeks we have been challenged with our teaching/learning in Technology using online mediums and students have responded in independent and creative ways.

Textiles

Fashion trends have been dictated by face masks in the past few months with the Stage 4 Lock down. However, our fashion and textile classes have found ways of being creative despite the many challenges.

Year 7 and 8 students were able to learn how to use the sewing machines by using applique to create themed collages of fabric and threads.  Some year 7 and 8 students elected to do the “What is the Fabric of Life” project where they were asked to find fabrics from their lives and home to create interesting effects while telling a story of their lives.

Incredibly, Year 9 Textiles classes were able to manufacture some shorts in a very short time before lockdown. One of the activities required students to investigate body shapes and clothing styles. They examined various design elements and how those elements enhanced/flattered body shapes. Students then investigated skirt styles and were required to create a mood board and fashion drawing using the different skirt designs.

Year 10 Fashion Workshop students created colourful bags whilst, Year 10 students who elected to do the Textiles project were challenged to create a fashion inspired “Lookbook” with fantastic results.

The Year 11 Fashion students looked to Disney princesses to make an inspired skirt, whilst learning pattern drafting and fashion drawing.

The more seasoned Year 12 Fashion students were drawn to the magical theme and designed and made remarkable cloaks for mystical characters. These were adapted from a basic kimono pattern with astounding results. Scroll through these photos to see our students' wonderful work.

Year 9 Food Technology

In Year 9 Food, students have been learning about nutrition in the context of meal planning.  They were set the challenge of creating a balanced family meal using meal planning principles and the constraints of using pasta as the base of the meal. Students were to plan, shop and cook the meal at home…here were some of the results!
