Junior School

Performing Arts College Assembly

On Tuesday, 17 May, Junior School participated in the first whole school College Assembly this year. It was a special time for the Year 4 boys and students new to Junior School who were acknowledged and welcomed by being piped in. The Performing Arts Assembly was also a wonderful opportunity for the boys to watch as their Senior school brothers showcased bands and ensembles, dance, and drama. Many of these Senior boys had themselves been through Junior School. I was particularly impressed with the fine behaviour of our boys, they were an interested and respectful audience throughout the Assembly.

Year 6 Confirmation Retreat + 6 Blue Mass

Today, Year 6 boys participated in a Year 6 Mass followed by a full day Confirmation retreat in Gibney Hall. This retreat run by 24.7 School Ministry, is the final piece in the boys’ journey to Confirmation. Our thoughts are with those boys who are absent due to COVID or illness. They will of course still receive their certificate confirming that they have engaged in the Confirmation unit of study. Some of our boys have already received the sacrament within their parishes.

A special congratulations to Ethan Byrne, Luis Randall and Ryder Hanna who were Confirmed last weekend, and to James Clarke who will be Confirmed this coming weekend. We love to share photographs of the boys on their special days so please send some through for the newsletter.

Year 5/6 Sport

This week our fixtures were at home against Aquinas. Well done to all the boys who did their best for their respective teams and sport. Good sportsmanship is an integral part of all that is best about sport. It includes a generous spirit, true respect for others and the game, graciousness, and a steadfast resistance to temptations such as attempting to gain an unfair advantage. Good sportsmanship encapsulates much that is honourable in human behaviour and endeavour and abounds with good fellowship.

We thank parents who model and instil this in their sons, knowing that whatever sport they play or team they are in, they are models of good behaviour, a sporting attitude and sound endeavour. Teachers and coaches work hard to prepare the boys at training and support them on the day. They are appreciative of parent support in this regard.

State Football Team

A very big congratulations to Nash Styles (6W) and former Junior School student Sam Keys for being selected to play in the State Schoolboys AFL 12 Years & Under squad. The boys will be heading to Adelaide in August to compete in the national championships, an awesome achievement.

Year 4 Hockey Carnival

Yesterday the Year 4s got to participate in their first inter-school carnival with Aquinas. They have been preparing for this hockey carnival all term with hockey workshops each Thursday. A huge thank you to all the parents who volunteered and supported their sons in various ways.  Thank you too to Mr Thompson for coordinating the carnival.

Parent Liaison

Tuesday was our first opportunity to have a Parent Liaison meeting. I am very appreciative of the parental support we receive at Trinity and would like to especially thank the parents who attended for your support and your flexibility in our change of venue to the staff-lounge. Our next Parent Liaison meeting will be held in Term 3 on Wednesday, 18 August at 2.30pm in the boardroom. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to add a discussion point to our agenda.

National Simultaneous Storytime

I am looking forward to reading to the Year 4 boys next Wednesday as part of the National Simultaneous Reading Time.  I hope they will enjoy it as much as I know I will.

Prefects Corner

By Nate Cass and Max Scaparolo

This week was another great week. All the students enjoyed the week especially the Year 4s, they got to do their hockey carnival against Aquinas. They all did great, I’m sure that all of the kids learned some new skills and learned how to be a better team player. The whole school is still really happy that they don’t need to wear a mask.

On Tuesday there was a lot of classes doing P.E. All of the kids loved doing it. Mr Thompson made everything really fun. It was the first time that the Year 4s ever got to do triple jump. They all learned something new in athletics, because they probably didn’t do it at their old school. Great opportunities for all the new kids.

Last week the year the Year 5s didn’t get to do sport training because of NAPLAN but this week all the Year 5s were happy to go to sport training in the morning on Wednesday. The coaches were getting ready for the big games of Thursday.

These were the best games ever against Aquinas on Thursday. They were all close games especially the A’s football. It came down to the minute when they were up by three. The other games were pretty close, like the soccer team played their worst game but they still won.
