CPS Leaders at

Principal's Conference

Our 2022 school leaders were invited to the Victorian Principal's Conference today to deliver our unique Acknowledgement of Country. We are so proud of this group of four students and the way they prepared and presented in front of a very large audience. Well done, leaders.

Below is a copy of their transcript.

Maia - Wominjeka and good morning everyone. My name is Maia and this is Tran, Lotte and James. We’re the student leaders at Carnegie Primary School. We are honoured to be here today to perform the Acknowledgement of Country for the commencement of the 2nd day of the Principals Conference.

Tran - Back in 2020, the SRC at Carnegie Primary School decided to improve our Acknowledgement of Country by including the physical gesture of touching the ground. By actually creating a connection between the earth and our own bodies, we are reminded that we’re lucky to be on ancient Aboriginal land and that we should respect and care for Country in our everyday lives.

Lotte - As mentioned, we’ve travelled here today from our homes and school in Carnegie, which is in Bunurong Country, to acknowledge the traditional owners of Wurundjeri Country. Please join with us by touching the ground as a physical representation of the connection between our bodies and the earth.

James - We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are gathered and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge the vitality of our planet and the responsibility for all to care for it and all its inhabitants. We would also like to extend our acknowledgement to all other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people here today. Thank you.
