Year 8 SEPEP Handball

Over the next few weeks in Year 8 PE, we are doing a season of SEPEP European Handball. European Handball is an invasion game where the aim is to score a goal in the other team’s half. The SEPEP season started on 25/05 with the first game being Lemons versus the Green Eggs and Ham. The second game was the Johnny Reds versus the Lemons, it was a fast-paced game, with the Johnny Reds winning 5-0.

Some standout players were Addi Jones from the Lemons, for her great intercepts and defensive work and Jamie Male from the Johnny Reds, for his scoring skills in attack. It was a great game, and we can’t wait to see what happens next week.

Bek Howarth

Wednesday afternoon in Scoresby Secondary College’s gym, Johnny Reds and Green Eggs and Ham clashed in an intense game of European handball. In the end Johnny Reds came out on top defeating Green Eggs and Ham 3-1.

It was the Johnny Reds who had the first chance for goal but though it was a good attempt by Jaxson, it was saved. It became a trend as Kaela shot and missed once along with Jamie who got close, but missed three times. Although their shooting may just seem poor and inaccurate, the major cause for their misses was thanks to Green Eggs and Ham’s skilful goalies who barely missed a save.

Green Eggs and Ham, on the other hand, were quick to start scoring, with Andrew scoring the first goal of the game and after another close attempt, he was clearly on a role.

Throughout the game, Johnny Reds clearly had strong defence, with Kaela executing a skilful intercept and Jamie getting multiple. Despite this, Johnny Reds still hadn’t scored yet and time was running out.

They were desperate as the subs came on and, although they lost Bree and Abby, Alex and Mahmoud came on, ready to make a strong comeback for their team. Green Eggs and Ham saw Jenna and Loumari go as Flynn and Cordell walked on to replace them.

Johnny Reds quickly began their comeback after Alex found a spot to get past Cordell and scored Johnny Reds’ first goal.

Green Eggs and Ham almost had another chance but Johnny Reds got a throw in. They got another chance when a bad pass from Cordell means they got another throw in. Johnny Reds’ strong offence take advantage of that and score their second goal.

Green Eggs and Ham miss their last chance at redemption when after a good run from Bek, she accidentally stepped out. Mahmoud strongly threw it in to Jamie who scored just before the game finished.

Offensively, Johnny Reds were very strong and often had the ball, but the score didn’t reflect that thanks to Green Eggs and Ham’s skilful goalies who almost always saved the ball. This almost made up for their slightly weaker defence and offence although scoring was still a problem for them.
