Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

Selamat Siang! This week the Inquiry Centre students have been working hard in their learning and enjoying lots of exciting activities. Unfortunately, the Open Night has been postponed but if you would like to see your child’s work, head to Seesaw for lots of examples of what we have been working on in class.

In Literacy this week, students have been exploring poetry. Students were invited to bring an item from home that is special to them as inspiration for their poems. Thank you to all families who sent items or photos for students to share. If you haven’t yet been able to send something in, we are still exploring poetry so there is still the opportunity to bring in an item this week as well. We have explored different types of poems including rhyming, acrostic, nursery rhymes and cinquains and students have been given the opportunity to have some fun adding new verses to poems or writing their own.

We have also been working on our visualising skills to help us understand what we are reading. Students have been encouraged to practice ‘making a movie’ in their minds as a way to “see” the images. Check out Seesaw this week to see some of your child’s visualising work.

Next week, students will have the opportunity to write a narrative titled “The Great Escape!” We have provided some questions that you can use to talk with your child and generate ideas in preparation for this task. Students can upload their ideas onto the Seesaw post and share these ideas in class.

In Mathematics, students are exploring and comparing fractions of an object (such as a pizza) and as a collection (a bunch of apples). Students were given the opportunity to show what they have learned by making a “think board” showing a fraction in different ways. This week we have also been learning about chance and probability. We have had great fun learning about how to increase our chances when playing games and how to describe the possibility of different events occurring such as rolling doubles with two dice.

This week we also recognised Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day. Students have had the opportunity to learn more about Australian history and why we recognise and reflect on the struggles that First Nations People have faced as a result of colonisation. It has been wonderful to hear the discussions from students as they talk about how we can show our support to First Nations People and the Stolen Generation.

Have a fantastic week!

Pupil of the Week

1/2ET: Winter O

For using your creativity and perseverance while writing a haiku about Sonic the Hedgehog. You brainstormed great ideas and made sure it fit the 5-7-5 syllable rule. Great work, Winter!

1/2G: Zoe M -

For demonstrating persistence and challenging yourself to share your knowledge of fractions in your think board. It was great to see you using Maths Key Words to describe your work. Keep it up, Zoe!

1/2K: Elliot H -

For demonstrating curiosity when playing our chance games. You used your maths key words and fractions to describe the chance of rolling certain numbers. Great effort Elliot!

1/2M: Nolan T -

For demonstrating perseverance in your poetry writing this week. You worked hard to write a rhyming poem taking care to say words carefully to check if they rhymed. Amazing work Nolan!

1/2SS: Tahlia R -

For showing bravery when presenting your persuasive speech. Your reasons were convincing and you spoke with expression and a clear voice. Well done Tahlia!
