Curriculum

In the blink of an eye we've passed the halfway mark of Term 2.

Last week in Maths we learnt about strategies for addition and subtraction. Students explored the vertical method, partitioning and using MAB blocks and how renaming is required to calculate some equations. We also learnt about budgets and applying the addition and subtraction strategies learnt to financial transactions.

In Writing students made a tutorial video using iMovie to demonstrate the procedure they wrote to teach a skill. Look out for the final products to come up in Seesaw very soon! Students also wrote up an erosion experiment conducted during STEM and recognised the similarities and differences to other procedural text types.

In Reading we continued our focus on non fiction text types, this time looking at information reports. Students worked collaboratively to use their knowledge of text features to assemble a jumbled up information report. In recognition of National Sorry Day, we also analysed Kevin Rudd's speech to understand how language can change depending on the audience and purpose. It was also a valuable opportunity to discuss the significance of the apology for the Indigenous community and what actions we can take to further support them. Our focus on information reports connects to our Guided Inquiry and Writing sessions this week where students will use their research about an explorer to create their own informative text. We would appreciate your support with completing this week’s home talk to discuss possible presentation ideas such as an interview, poster, slides or role play.

In Wellbeing students created a video demonstrating a strategy they can employ to assist with relaxation during stressful situations. They were required to explain how it was useful and what their body feels like before and after using this strategy. We encourage families to discuss what strategies were chosen and also practise these at home.

Have a wonderful week,

Miss Chooi, Miss Richardson, Miss Wang, Mrs McCoy, Miss Tillotson and Miss Honan

Reminders

  • Heading into the Winter months, we would greatly appreciate if students could please bring a tissue box from home for class use
  • Bring back ICE money if required

Pupil of the Week

3/4C: Jonas T -

For demonstrating curiosity by asking lots of in-depth questions during our class discussion about National Sorry Day. You encouraged the class to think carefully about the importance of respecting the Indigenous people's land and culture. Keep up the great work Jonas!

3/4H: Jude G -

For demonstrating curiosity and a love of learning when solving a range of addition and subtraction equations. You should be proud of your determination when using problem solving strategies to calculate the missing elements. Keep up the wonderful work, Jude!

3/4M: Kayla S -

For demonstrating a love of learning and collaboration last week during our mathematics sessions. I was really proud to see you teaching another student in the class a strategy you had learned to solve subtraction problems. Well done, Kayla!

3/4T: Emilie L -

For demonstrating teamwork and perseverance when working on your erosion science experiment. It was great to see you exploring how we can limit erosion through using rocks, grass and dirt. Incredible work, Emilie!

3/4R: Evelyn E -

For demonstrating a love of learning and problem solving strategies when completing addition and subtraction problems with missing numbers. Well done on working through the challenges to find multiple solutions. I am so proud of you. Amazing work, Evelyn!

3/4W: Mitchell W -

For demonstrating a love of learning and perseverance when unscrambling your non-fiction text! You used your knowledge of text features and their purposes to link different pieces.
