Leadership Centre

Curriculum

Halo semuanya!

Another jam-packed week in the leadership centre has absolutely flown by! It was amazing to have so many students go to the district cross country on Wednesday. Well done to all students for putting in a massive effort, and a special thanks to Mrs Butterworth for organising the day! During Kitchen Garden sessions, classes have been busy making a delicious honey crunch with Bu Mundy.

In Writing sessions last week, students worked to publish their favourite poem from our unit on poetry. This poem was created on a paper leaf which was then added to our 5/6 Poetree! Later in the week, students created a ‘Blackout’ piece of poetry, these were created from a page of a text where students could highlight keywords and add a creative design that matched the highlighted words. Ending the week, students created persuasive writing pieces to persuade their audience as to what the school should do with 9 million dollars in funding!

In Reading, students participated in whole class lessons preparing for our Literature Circle rotations. Later in the week, it was great to see students share their findings in their Literature Circle group and set new reading goals for the week. Students also began to watch the series ‘The school that tried to end racism’ which sparked in-depth conversations in the classrooms. Students were encouraged to share their perspectives and thoughts on the topic which created many powerful discussions. We will continue to watch the remaining episodes in the coming weeks and develop our questioning skills.

During Mathematics sessions last week, students completed assessment tasks early in the week. Students and teachers ran mini focus conferences and discussed future learning goals and strategies from these results. Later in the week, students began to explore and experiment with angles which will be our new focus. A highlight was going on an angle hunt around the school with students to find angles in the world around us.

For Guided Inquiry last week, the students were busy working on their museum displays. It has been awesome to see so many different exhibits and ideas taking place! We  can't wait to see the finished artifacts and interactive elements for each exhibit.

Have a great week!
