Principal's Report

Carly Avery

Dear Parents and Friends,

On Friday I received a call from Heidi who is a member of the Golden Horseshoe Festival Committee. I was very excited to hear and share with our students at our assembly that we had been awarded the Committees Perpetual Trophy for the “Best Parade Entry 2022!” This award is a reflection of the hard work put in by our parents who created the float, supported by so many happy students on Easter Saturday. Congratulations to all involved, I was very proud to be involved.

Covid/ Influenza A

This morning I spoke to one of our local doctors who is contacting schools regarding Covid cases in Beechworth and a large number of Influenza A cases in Beechworth.

Over the last ten days, we have seen a high number of students at home, with only a few of these being positive covid cases. We thank parents who are keeping students at home for extended periods of time, thus supporting the health of other students and staff.

Doctors are encouraging adults and children to have a flu vaccination when possible. Contact your GP surgery or pharmacy for more information.

Walk Safely to School Day

National Walk Safely to School Day is on Friday 20th May. The event seeks to promote road safety, health, public transport and the environment. We encourage all students to walk to school or a distance where possible. Don’t forget to see Mr Carr when you arrive at school!

Primary School Nursing Program

The Victorian Primary School Nursing is a free health assessment offered by the Department of Education and Training to all children during their first year of primary school.

The Primary School Nurse will visit the school to assess all foundation children that have returned the School Entrant Health Questionnaire (SEHQ) which has been handed out today. Information provided in the SEHQ will enable the School Nurse to identify and respond to parents/carers concerned about their child's health and wellbeing, and to provide an assessment and referral where indicated.

If you wish your child to participate in the Primary School Nursing Program, please indicate this by ticking the YES consent box and signing page 5.

If you do not wish your child to participate, please tick the NO consent box and sign on page 5.

Please return the questionnaire to your child's school by Friday 20th May 2022.
