Year 7 News

Vermont Secondary College

Year 7 Students have been busy completing work requirements in their classes.

We encourage students to use their diary in class to record important events and homework.

Parents are encouraged to ask and check their child’s diary too. Diaries have been shown to improve our working memory by allowing us to retain information for greater periods of time.

Home Learning and Diaries.

At VSC we encourage all students to engage with Home Learning.

An important part of this is ensuring that students are bringing their diary to every class, recording specific homework tasks consistently but also reviewing and revising classroom learning.

This can include:

Literacy

It is recommended students read widely 30 minutes every day. In addition, suggested tasks include:

Journaling or reflective writing

Practising spelling words

Practising typing skills

Numeracy.

It is recommended students review Mathematics learnings every evening.

This may include:

reviewing class examples,

flowcharting processes or

finalising exercises

Languages: review key words, create glossaries, practise reading /speaking

Other subjects: (Humanities, Sciences, Arts and Technology)

Review class notes

Create glossaries

Create summaries

Journaling

Revise for tests

We also encourage students to seek advice from their Student Managers. Asking for help doesn’t display weakness. It builds strength. Resilient students interpret academic or social challenges in a positive way (such as increasing effort, developing new strategies, or practising conflict resolution).
