Foundation Unit

Look What’s Been Happening in Foundation…

In Literacy, the Foundation students have continued learning about different writer’s craft techniques that authors use in their writing in order to have an effect on the reader. We have had lots of fun learning about similes and using them in our writing.

Have a look at some of the wonderful simile poems students wrote about their friends!

In Numeracy, we have begun learning about Subtraction and different strategies we can use to model and solve subtraction problems. The students have loved coming up with their own subtraction stories for a partner to solve using counters and pictures. We even made up subtraction stories by playing skittles!

Here is some of the fun we have been having with our hands on maths activities!

Just a reminder that book week is coming up and Woodend Primary School will be holding an open morning on Wednesday the 23rd of August. Students are encouraged to come to school dressed up as their favourite character on this day and parents and carers are invited to attend our parade first thing in the morning before joining the students back in their classrooms to gain some insight into what Literacy looks like at our school. Everyone is welcome!

Enjoy the rest of your week!
