Year 1 Unit

Last Wednesday 66 very excited Year One students, set off to experience their very own Picnic at Hanging Rock excursion. It was an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the sounds, sights and smells of such an historically significant place for our Indigenous community. We were able to appreciate why the location was chosen as a meeting ground and once we reached the vantage point, could appreciate why it was such a great lookout place for the local tribes. Students were asked to be quiet and to tune into their senses to and draw or write all that they could, using this incredible location as inspiration. They imagined the changes from then to now and how the landscape/sounds would both be the same, and changed due to how we now live. Upon their return students used this writing to draft and then publish their own poem. It was a very special opportunity to use real life experiences to enhance their connection to their writing.
