Middle Unit -2/3

Last week the students in the Middle Unit explored Indigenous games during our Incursion. The students rotated through 5 games with indigenous origins. The names of the games were: Gitja, Thepan, Juluhya, Goori and Woggabaliri. Each game started with an explanation of its origins and how the game is played. The students played the games in mixed groups and enjoyed mixing with other students from the Middle Unit. Everyone had lots of fun and thank you to Mrs Minchew for helping us to organise the event.

  • ‘It was really fun.’  Millie
  • ‘It was respectful of their culture.’ Hazel
  • ‘Amazing’ Ryder
  • ‘People were being resilient’. Albie
  • ‘The games were fun and awesome’. Archie
  • ‘The best day ever’. Ari

The Middle Unit has also been studying poetry and we have enjoyed exploring the structure of cinquain poems and couplet poems and using alliteration to enhance our writing.

Students have also been investigating arrays and multiplication in Maths. We have used our knowledge to make enclosures for zoo animals and used arrays and our multiplication skills to work out the square metre measurement for our enclosures. We put all the enclosures together to form a map of a zoo. This was a great way to use our maths skills for a practical purpose.
