Principal's Report - Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/ Carers,

EDUCATION WEEK IN REVIEW

We had a wonderful week last week celebrating Education Week at Fairvale PS. The theme was 175 years of public education in NSW.

  • MONDAY - Classes kicked off the week by viewing two videos. One was a live stream launch and the other was a Fairvale PS video – acknowledging the school’s past and reflecting on all the former Fairvale PS students who have come back to the school as teachers.
  • TUESDAY – students attended the science incursion ‘Kaleidoscope’, with lots of fun had by all. Students had a blast learning about liquids, gases and all things atomic.
  • WEDNESDAY students and staff joined in the ‘Back to the future Day’ fun by dressing up as what you might like to do when you grow up. It was great to see so many costumes. We also raised lots of money for the SRC. Peer Support commenced as well. Groups met their new group and played some old school games.
  • THURSDAY We saw lots of families attend FAMILY DAY. The day started in the hall with a presentation about the school’s current strategic improvement plan. Families also had an opportunity to speak to Miss Michelle and Miss Samira about Parent Café and the new school app and School Bytes. Miss Diep was available to talk about Seesaw and Ms Batar spoke to some of our families about the changes to the recent NAPLAN assessment. After this, families visited classrooms to write a message in a bottle, before enjoying a yummy sausage sizzle.

Thank you to everyone for attending. It was a great week!

PRIMARY PRINCIPAL’S DAY

I was surprised on Friday afternoon with many cards and messages for Primary Principal’s Day. Many children spoke to me after school as well which was lovely. In the afternoon Miss Fletcher and Ms Ida took me on scavenger hunt where I located many special messages from every class. Thank you everyone – I most certainly have the best job in the world!

BIKE VISITS WITH MR PITT

This last fortnight I visited 3C and 6D.   Read my reports below and check out some of the photos in this edition of the newsletter.

3 CONJOLA – On Monday I visited 3C during a maths lesson. Everyone was focusing on either multiplying or dividing by 3. Miss Chea created 3 anchor charts with information from the class. Children were using the distributive strategy to multiply by 3, divide numbers into groups of 3 or use the distributive strategy to divide by 3. It was pleasing to see everyone on task and completing their investigation with confidence. I also liked being able to move from table to table and have the children share their new learning.

6 DAINTREE – I had a great bike visit to 6D on Wednesday. Children were using a variety of skills to determine the meaning of words selected from the text ‘The Return of the Iron Man’. Children were able to justify their reasons for their answers and it was great to see children describing the word as either a noun, verb or adjective as this will often support the meaning of the word. After writing down their own meaning, children worked in pairs to locate the words in the dictionary. Thank you 6D! I enjoyed my visit and being able to check-in with your learning.

REPEAT: SCHOOL SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY

All students in Years 2 to 6 have now received the school swimming and water safety information. This year we can take 180 students to Prairiewood Leisure Centre. The program is for students who are non and/or weak swimmers. The program will assist students to obtain confidence whilst in the water as well as focusing on basic survival skills to help children and their families stay safe around water. It is a 10-day program, and the school has subsidised the entire daily bus fare. So rather than the program costing $131.11, it will cost $65.00 per student. If your child is in Year 2 to Year 6, and fits the criteria outlined above, I would strongly encourage you to allow your child to participate.

So far, we have 120 children set to attend – with only 55 spots left!

Return the note and payment by Friday 18 August.

SCIENCE WEEK 2023—INNOVATION: POWERING FUTURE INDUSTRIES

Next week is Science Week. The theme this year is ‘Innovation: Powering future industries.’ This year all projects will be on display in the library throughout Week 5. Everyone will have the opportunity to view the projects as part of our Science Week celebration. We hope that many children and/or families will submit a project. Projects can be individually, or family designed under one of the 3 areas: Artwork, Digital Representation or a 3D model.

Please bring your projects to school on Friday 11 August.

BOOK WEEK 2023 – READ, GROW, INSPIRE

We will be celebrating Book Week in Week 6. This year we will be having a Book Week Parade as we celebrate the magic of literature with our captivating theme, ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’. Immerse yourself in a world of imagination with creating a very special costume for the Book Week parade.

REPEATED: STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK

All adults on site will be healthy and ready to work and we expect the same from our children and their families. If children are unwell at school, you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date. Check out the link below.
