To celebrate National Science Week Karoo held a whole school STEM event. All students from Foundation to Year 6 participated in a range of STEM activities which included:

  • Reading the 'Three Billy Goats Gruff' and then building a bridge to help the goats cross the river.
  • Reading 'Who Sank the Boat' and then building a boat to hold the most animals.
  • Reading 'The 3 Little Pigs' and then building a house that cannot be blown down by the big bad wolf.
  • Reading 'Sadie Sprocket Builds A Rocket' and then building and launching rockets using the stomp rocket launchers.
  • Reading 'The Gardener’s Maze' and then building a paper straw and plate marble maze.
  • Reading 'The Mixed Up Chameleon' and then creating their own hybrid animal.
  • Reading 'How to Code a Sandcastle' and then participating in an unplugged coding activity.

Special lunch and afternoon break activities

As part of the National Science Week celebrations the Science and Environment Captains Aidan and David ran two special break time activities. Junior school students (Years F-2) had the opportunity to make and explore the non-Newtonian fluid Oobleck. Senior school students (Years 3-6) got to make their very own larva lamps. It was amazing to see so many students making their own larva lamps - I don't think we could fit any more scientists in the lab!
