Meet some of our Specialists
Mrs Jemimah Main - Visual Arts
When I first came to Karoo, many moons ago, I was a classroom teacher, but after taking family leave I was fortunate enough to able to work in several different Specialist roles – my absolute favourite of which is Visual Arts! I love being able to spend my days sharing with the students how much fun can be had in the Art room; exploring different materials and art styles, learning about amazing artists and getting to try so many different ways to express our creativity. Two of my career highlights have been last year’s Glow in the Dark Art Show and in 2019 when our Year 5 Romero Britto Book Characters were displayed in the Zart Art Student Gallery – copies of these are on display in our school library and still make me so proud of the students who created them. When I’m not at school I spend a lot of my time reading, watching Disney movies and creating my own t-shirts or personalised gifts for the people I love.
Miss Jess Cole - Visual and Performing Arts
I have been a member of the Karoo Primary School community for many years. During that time, I have taught almost all year levels as well as the specialist areas of Visual and Performing Arts. I love teaching at Karoo and getting to know all the students and families who are part of our community. When I am not at school, I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with family and friends.
Mr John Oldham - Performing Arts
I love to sing, dance, play, create and present alongside my fellow musicians in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 at Karoo Primary School. How fortunate to be able to do all these things in such a well resourced Performing Arts Classroom. In my own time (when not playing guitar or ukulele) interests centre on the family and then include sport, travel, Australian native plants, gardening and collectables.
Ms Katie Smith - Science
I began my teaching career as a primary classroom teacher, and I am excited to continue my teaching journey at Karoo Primary School as the Science specialist. I am passionate about STEM education. I aspire to ignite curiosity, creativity, and a love of science for all students. I want my students to be independent, critical, and creative thinkers who are motivated to challenge themselves and achieve their best in all their endeavours. Outside of school I enjoy being active, doing craft, and spending time with my family and friends.
