Music at MAG
D2 Drumline Workshop
During the school holidays the MAG Senior Drumline had the absolute pleasure of attending a workshop at school, led by three of Australia’s top drumline and percussion educators; Campbell Phillips, Harry Potocnik and Jordan Kiely, in preparation for the Australian Drumline Competition in early August.
The three day workshop included one-on-one workshops for the soloists, as well as group sessions. The drumline learnt many new exercises from warm-up drills, to skill and technique exercises and new stick tricks. We worked together with Harry, Cam and Jordan on our performance pieces for the drumline competition, helping to increase our precision, technique and memorisation of the charts. We learnt all the choreography for each piece, and after lots and lots of practice we finally started to get the hang of it!
Overall the drumline workshop was extremely helpful, our improvement as a line was incredible after just 3 days of hard work. The improvement within each section was awesome to see as well!
A massive thank you to Kev Kiely and Mrs Gibbs for organising the workshop and for Harry, Cam and Jordan for coming to MAG and teaching us so much. We all very much enjoyed it, and can’t wait to work with them all again!
