Principal Update

From Melissa Mackenzie

Our annual 3 Way Conferences were very successful yesterday. All students were well prepared and spoke very confidently, showing pride in their learning.

At dinner the teachers spoke proudly of how well the students were presenting and how the time flew by. Well done and thank you everyone.

The first day of our Review went very well with the panel speaking very highly of the programs in place and how engaged and articulate our students are. The next day is on Tuesday 8 August and the panel will interview groups and observe more classes.

Today is our annual Senior Athletics Day for the Year 3-6 at Harriers Track. The weather is promising and I’m sure it will be a fun and competitive day for all.

Last Friday I held my first Principal Morning Tea for some P/1 and Year 2 students. We enjoyed a hot chocolate and some biscuits together and I asked the question “What is the best thing at APS for you?”.

Here are their responses: Kipp- “I have lots of friends and there is always a ball to play with”; Eloise- “I like everything”; Ophelia- “I like everything”; Henry and Poppy both like math; Lucas- “I have lots of friends”; Grace likes dancing and acting in Performing Arts and Curtis gave Art a 10.10; Steph- “I like math and could have more math”; Matt and Jamie liked PE; and Josie liked everything about her first year at school. It was great fun. This week I will invite some year 3-6 students to join in and share their ideas about the school.

Two events coming up: Friday 18 August is the National Day Against Bullying and also our student lead House Day. The leaders are currently designing activities for role plays and opportunities to revise our Bully Stoppers work so far. There will be more information in next week’s newsletter. On Tuesday 22 August we will celebrate Book Week with an opportunity to dress-up and activities to enjoy literature. We will start the day with a parade in the gym and then classrooms will be open for visitors to join. It is a great opportunity for grandparents and extended family members to visit and see the learning that happens.

We hope you like our new look newsletter. Please bear with us as we tweak the formatting. We hope this is a positive move to an easier to read newsletter.

Have a great week!
